Jim Goldberg was one of my heroes when I was studying. I fell head over heels in love with his book Raised by Wolvesit changed my idea of documentary photography forever.

Last night was the opening of his exhibiton Open see at Foam. Over the past six years, Goldberg has been photographing people whose homelands have been destroyed by acts of war and severe social and economic problems. They all live in hope of a better life in Europe. It's a harrowing and intensely personal series of works. It's also bloody amazing photography.

After the opening I went to my new favourite bar and drank wine with Lucy until way too late. One of our friends showed up. I doubled her home on the fiets, while she made me listen to Maximum Balloon. We were a bit wobbly!
