A fairytale cottage

My relatives Trudy and Thijs live in Rhenen, which lies near the banks of the Rhine. It's a beautiful part of the country and their little house is very, very sweet. Instead of a manicured garden, they have simply allowed wildflowers to grow, to the point where you can hardly see their house.

Trudy is a writer and a lover of nature, as is her husband Thijs, who keeps bees. He showed me his hives and how the honey is made and collected. I've never tasted honey like that, it was so strong and sweet and complex. All the way back on the train to Amsterdam I daydreamed about living in my own cottage in the country.
